Vol 6, No 3 (2021): A Study on Strengthening the R.C. Columns by Fibres

Abstract:Â Due to ageing, poor maintenance, corrosion caused by poor environmental conditions, and accidental events such as earthquakes, concrete structures can deteriorate. With ever-increasing demands, the necessity to update degraded civil engineering infrastructure becomes even more pressing. As a result, restoring and retrofitting civil engineering infrastructure has been recognised as a critical problem that has to be addressed. Glass fibre is a novel material that is particularly successful in reinforcing work and is made up of tightly spaced glass and resins. The basic idea is that large strains occur in the vicinity of the reinforcement. The magnitude of the strain is determined by the distribution and subdivision of reinforcement throughout the mass of concrete. This paper investigates the strengthening of reinforced concrete columns using glass fibre laminates. The usage of Glass fibre as exterior confinement to concrete specimens is studied in this research. The efficiency of confinement is determined by comparing the behaviour of retrofitted specimens to that of ordinary specimens.

Vol 6, No 3 (2021): Analysis of Traffic Volume and Fly over Construction for Traffic Problems in Kompally Junction, Hyderabad, GHMC

Abstract:Â Traffic engineers use engineering methods and techniques to attain the safe and time-efficient movement of people and goods on roadways. The safe and time-efficient movement of the individuals and time-dependent on traffic flow, which is directly connected to the traffic characteristics, the three parameters of traffic flow are volume, speed, and density. The amount of vehicle has enlarged expressively within the last decade due to the increase of the economic status of people. In this study, emphasis is given on traffic volume data collection and the different analysis is carried out. For a better understanding of the existing status of traffic flow at the chosen junction kompally junction, a traffic survey is conducted, with the help of data collection, it has made clear to understand the traffic patterns during the different period time. To diminish traffic congestion at an at-grade intersection in kompally junction one way is to construct a flyover bridge. This paper presents the problems that still exist at the flyover improved junction and suggests surging the benefits of the flyover such as creating phase times and improving the physical area under the bridge. Flyover bridge is planned using the popular drafting software AutoCAD 2D. It was further designed and analyzed using the premiere analysis software STADD PRO and creating a 3D model of flyover bridge we used the animation software 3ds MAX. The salient features of the flyover bridge are manually designed and estimate. Analysis from the present study help control the traffic flow at the intersection and also suggestion some traffic management measures to improve the traffic movement in this region.

Abstract:Â Rapid growth of infrastructure in road construction need natural resources. There is a need to explore the feasibility of use of iron ore tailings and mine waste in road construction. Utilization of mine waste rocks and iron ore tailings in bitumen as aggregates will help in sustainable & greener development. This literature shows the potential use of iron ore tailings as a replacement of natural fine aggregates &mine waste as a replacement of coarse aggregates. As natural resources are depleting day by day, there is a need for substitution for aggregates in bitumen. A comprehensive overview of the published literature on the use of iron ore tailings & mine waste in bitumen is being presented. The various effects of various properties such as penetration, softening point, ductility, specific gravity, flash &fire point of bitumen have been presented here. In this paper the properties of fine aggregates, properties of coarse aggregates, and marshal stability values are determined.

Abstract:Â Road traffic in India displays a heterogeneous mix condition where in vehicles possessing distinguished physical and operational attributes constitute the vehicular flow. The behaviour of homogeneous flows, commonly observed in the developed Western nations, is characterized by a strict lane discipline and single-file motion of vehicles with restricted movement across the lanes. A heterogeneous flow, on the contrary, is differentiated by the presence of a loose lane discipline and use of the entire road space without any confinements for maneuvering. The behaviour of such traffic is ensued by the existence of flow variables that vary over space and time. Most of the injuries and crashes has chance to occur at intersection. With the rapid growth of the number of various vehicles, the ratio of the traffic accidents to vehicle number is increasing greatly. Hence in this research we were taken different intersections located in Amravati city (Two lane and Four lane). Studied different intersections and find out the heterogeneous behaviour of traffic. Data collected from different intersection manually. The study discussed in this research was performed in order to understand primary traffic parameters and their features pertaining to vehicle behaviour on the two-lane and four lane road. The objective of this research is threefold: to provide a comprehensive review of the studies on Heterogeneous conditions traffic in developing economies, to identify the limitations and gaps in the current understanding of the traffic characteristics and to supply a background and guidelines for the researchers in planning their future studies.

Lean technique/ procedure are found to be effective in many industrial sector including construction but deal with soft interventions. These interventions take into account planning and allocation of resources, strategic planning on managerial level with less focus on reducing the waste on construction site thereby earning profit in a particular project. The paper focus on various dimensions of lean technology / practises observed in construction industry and the need of cohabiting use of recycled/ reusability of smart sustainable construction material on regular basis. This review paper explores various possibilities and opportunities of incorporation sustainable materials along with lean construction practices.

Vol 6, No 2 (2021): A Study on Students’ Attitude towards State Transportation Corporation Bus Services

Abstract: This study tends to convey the attitude of college students towards STC Bus Services. The objective of this study is to identify the level of satisfaction of services offered by STC and problems faced by college students in availing the services of STC. A sample of 100 respondents - College student’s residing in Coimbatore city were collected and analysed using percentage analysis. It is found from the study that majority of the College Students are aware of Weekly, Monthly, Yearly passes and also satisfied with the service of STC buses. Most of the College students opined that less space for standing inside the bus and not returning the balance amount as a problem .The College students expect certain services and facilities from the STC such as Extra buses during peak hours, Maintenance of buses, comfortable seats which are very common. The study conclude that if these suggestion are taken into consideration by the government then STC will always remains number one in providing the services with utmost satisfaction not only to the College students but also for the general public.

Abstract:Â Land-use changes are most often directly linked with economic decisions as per theories on land prices. Land-rent theory is the best example of how transportation investments can affect urban form and its economic value. The value of land at different distances from the Central Business District (CBD) decreases as one move outwards, due to higher transportation costs. Therefore, accessibility is the main factor to consider from an urban resource allocation standpoint, as it links land use and transportation. The paper explores the relationships between transportation network, land use and land value. The purpose of this paper is to identify the effect of land use change toward land values in the city of Bhubaneswar. The paper starts with an overview of a limited number of land rent theories and examines the role of land in economic theory.
 This paper examines the effect of distance to central business district on rental pattern land uses in Bhubaneswar. Furthermore, this paper is trying to measure the relationship of land price and distance because the land price is one of the reason for land use change and development of a new settlement.

Abstract:-In transportation industrial textiles have wide applications in the areas such as trains, buses, marine transportation, airplanes, and cars. In the tire manufacturing about 75% fibres is used in rubber industry. In the manufacturing of airbags, the most widely used yarns are nylon 6, 6. Polyester is used in automobiles seat belts and nylon fibres are used in aircraft seat belts. For the purpose of automotive interior trims, woven and nonwoven fabrics are used having different properties. Polyvinyl chloride or rubber coated fabrics are used for the exterior trim of the cars. For hoses and belts for cars engines reinforced textile materials are used. In the airplane upholstery, ZIRPRO WOOL is used which is a chemically treated wool having flame retardant property.

The peak hour traffic volume is determined by manually counting vehicles and multiplying by the passenger car unit (PCU). This paper investigated the root causes of traffic congestion at a Miraj intersection and suggested solutions to the issue.
Vol 6, No 1 (2021): Indian Roads & the Story of Development: Case Study of Atal Tunnel, Rohtang

Abstract: India is building more roads each day progressively. According to a government statement, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has constructed 8,169 kilometers of national highways from April 2020 to January 15, 2021, or about 28.16 km a day. The National Highways Authority of India handles nearly all the ministry's road projects. Sources site that the state-run road builder awarded 67 projects spanning more than 2.02 lakh kilometers with a capital cost of over Rs 79,200 crore in nine months ended December, according to an NHAI newsletter, with the Atal Tunnel costing about 3,300 crores. Overall, contractual agreements on road projects more than doubled in 2020 over 2019. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has been reported to have awarded projects of "7,597 km from April 1, 2020, to January 15, 2021". (NHAI, 2021). All of this in the financial year 2020 proves a leap of the road constructors. Atal Tunnel, previously known as the Rohtang Tunnel, has been constructed on the route along Manali-Leh and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister in October 2020. This project is an enormously impactful one in various aspects including strategic relations, transportability and technology.

Abstract:Â The contractors equipment policy and equipment management system have a great impact on the profitability of a firm, especially for contractors with large investment in equipment. In construction project 20-25 % of total cost of project used for construction equipment. The data given is monthly equipment utilization on site & various reasons for losses in cost and production of construction Equipment. From the proper equipment maintenance plan contractor can minimize the downtime of equipment as well as time and cost. From a case study it is explained that the various problem occurred due to not proper maintenance of equipment. Also as per time and cost optimization which type of maintenance is required as per Equipment condition, and for that right maintenance plan to be prepared. By proper maintaining of equipment it will be increase the productivity of equipment. By proper planning, selection, procurement, installation, operation and maintenance of equipment is beneficial to contractor.
Vol 6, No 1 (2021): Assessment of Strength Using Recycled Aggregates Between Bituminous Concrete and Waste Plastic Bituminous Concrete

Abstract:Â The present investigation was carried out to propose using waste plastic and recycled aggregates (RCA) and fly ash in a bituminous mix of flexible pavements. To improve their performance and give way for safe disposal and plastic wastes and construction demolition waste (CDW) to provide a solution to the threat of environmental pollution. The Marshall method of mix design was adopted using 60/70 grade bitumen to find the optimum bitumen content. Marshall specimens were prepared with bitumen content varying from 4% to 6%, increasing weight of aggregate by 0.5% and with waste plastic content of 0%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, and 16% by weight of optimum bitumen content. This study's main objective investigates the performance of bituminous concrete made with conventional bitumen and waste plastic bitumen using fly ash as a filler material. The comparison was also made by testing the physical properties of recycled aggregates and natural aggregates (NA). It was found that there was a considerable improvement in the properties of aggregates and bituminous mix, leading to provide longer life and better pavement performance. The use of waste plastic and recycled aggregates (RCA) in bituminous concrete mix contributes to the construction of green roads and solves the problem of its safe disposal.

With the problems and the lack of fossil fuel the hunt for new source of energy began. Vol 5, No 3 (2020): Road Accident and its Impact on the Environment: The Case of Oil Tanker Accident in the South-East Nigeria

Abstract: The study focused on revealing the impact of road accident on the environment. A study of oil tanker accident, which is common in the country, is carried out in the south east Nigeria. The recorded available data on oil tanker accident were sourced from Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and Federal Road Safety Corp. The data was subjected to descriptive statistics and qualitatively analyzed. Oil tanker accident record for nine incidences in the south east Nigeria shows that 533 people were burn died, 317 people injured, total area spillage of 12250m2, and about #807.81 Million of property damaged. The researcher discovered the impact of oil tanker accidents as; air pollution, climate change, soil quality and destroyed vegetation, noise, distortion of urban landscape and agricultural land, health hazard. The researcher summarized that oil tanker accidents have caused enormous environmental, human and material losses. The study therefore suggests traffic management. In this case, oil tanker should not be allowed to ply on the road during peak periods with other kinds of vehicles. There should be a time frame preferably from 9pm to 6am when the road is less congested from pedestrian and other kinds of vehicular movement. This could serve as a temporary measure while the country should carry out the implementation plan of reviving railway transportation in the country so that petroleum products could be convey by train services as it was in the early days. This will drastically reduce oil tanker accident and its impact on the environment.

Vol 5, No 3 (2020): Traffic Simulation for Improved Travel Corridor Performance – A Case Study in Bengaluru City

Abstract: Congestion has become a main concern in cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Delhi. Bengaluru City has witnessed a phenomenal growth in vehicle population from 48.69 lakh to 70.28 lakh in last 10 years. In this project an attempt is made to reduce the volume on the road by identifying and assigning traffic volume to underutilized road to decease the delay. The study area is selected from Outer ring road via Hoskeralli junction till Katriguppe circle as main road and 2nd main road via water tank road to Katriguppe circle. The road inventory survey, Traffic volume, delay study was done and to understand driver perception of choosing a particular road, Road side interview was conducted. The driver responses were analyzed and traffic was assigned to second main road by Wardrop’s user equilibrium function. The field data was simulated and calibrated by using VISSIM software. Traffic volume of the Outer Ring Road from Karnataka Power Transmission to Katriguppe via Hoskerehalli junction was observed to be 4324 vehicles / hour. On the 2nd main via water tank road to Katriguppe was observed to be 2609 vehicle/hour. The capacity of both roads was found to be 3284 vehicles/ hour. V/C ratio is 1.32 on outer ring road and 0.79 on 2nd main road. On Outer ring road traffic volume of 3035 vehicles/hour shall be diverted to second main road to reduce travel time by 3 minutes per vehicle. In order to reduce congestion and maintain V/C ratio less than 1, traffic volume of 3808 vehicles/hour and 3035 vehicles/hour shall be assigned on Outer ring road and 2nd main road respectively with travel time of 2 minutes 49 seconds on both the roads by reducing the delay at intersection.

In this investigation, examinations of various kinds of arch in link stayed connect for example H-type, A-type and Y-type is displayed to decide the most reasonable sort and contrast it and the executed H-type arch.

Vol 5, No 2 (2020): Identification of Two-Wheeler Accident Blackspots across Different Category of Roads in and Around Bengaluru City: A Cas

Abstract:Â The developments in the domain of transportation have led to a steep rise in economic losses and human losses due to road traffic accidents (RTAs). Identification of such RTA blackspots is considered vital for the effective and efficient utilization of resources to enhance traffic safety features of a road network. The identification of blackspots is not a new concept and has been in practice for a while. Despite the extensive work done in the field, there is an extreme scarcity of studies dedicated to the identification of blackspots exclusively for two-wheelers. In the present study, general accident blackspots and exclusive two-wheeler blackspots are identified on five different stretches in and around the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka. The five stretches under study belong to four major categories of roadways. Three years of accident data (2017-2019) is obtained from the police stations and the features of the road are recorded through on-field surveys. The accident data is used to determine the Weighted Severity Index, which in turn is used to identify the blackspots. Thereafter, the Kernel Density tool is used in the ArcGIS software to locate blackspots on the map. The different characteristics of the blackspots are analysed such as time of occurrence of RTAs, type of collisions occurring in RTAs and the degree of involvement of the various categories of motor vehicles in RTAs along the stretch. The factors leading to RTAs along the blackspots are identified and suitable countermeasures are suggested.
Vol 5, No 2 (2020): Experimental Studies to Assess the Effect of Sasobit Additive on the Marshall Properties of Warm Mix Asphalt

Abstract:Â Increased environmental awareness and stricter emissions regulations have led to the development of Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) to reduce the high mixing temperatures of regular hot mix asphalt (HMA). Its benefits are reduction in energy consumption during production and reduced emissions during production and placement. The three most tested methods are WAM Foam, Aspha-min zeolite and Sasobit wax. All three methods reduce the viscosity of the binder at a certain temperature range, allowing the aggregate to be fully coated at lower temperatures than in HMA production. In the present study, an attempt is made to determine the optimum dosage of sasobit for Warm Mix Asphalt with lime and cement as fillers and for this optimum dosage Warm Mix Asphalt is designed using the Marshall Method of mix design. From the results, the optimum dosage of sasobit obtained is 2% for Lime and 3% for the cement treated WMA mix. For this optimum dosage the Warm Mix Asphalt mix is designed with a bitumen content of 5.64% and 5.76%, respectively. The performance in terms of Marshall Properties of Warm Mix Asphalt with sasobit additive is better when compared to the Warm Mix Asphalt without additive.
Vol 5, No 2 (2020): Study of Parking Facilities in Commercial Area- Surat

Abstract:Â This study will be conducted for investigation and evaluation of problem related to present parking facilities at Surat ring road (Sahara to Udhana Darwaja). We perform license plate method for collecting the data of current conditions for improving services and the way that can be implemented are discussed. To solve the existing parking problems, we want to shift vehicles parked at On-street to any other available parking facilities like, under bridge parking, SMC parking lots, and other commercial buildings. From that, it reduced the on-street parking and vehicles get more width to move on road from the road so that traffic should decreases. It also developed the policy measures for on-street parking such as parking is permitted for short term, parking meters for parking charges and angled road marking for better parking.

Abstract: Urban congestion has become a pressing concern for transportation planners and policymakers, as growing populations and increased vehicle ownership intensify pressure on road infrastructure. This paper investigates recent advancements in traffic flow modeling and simulation, with a special focus on predictive and mitigation strategies for congestion in urban environments. Through a comprehensive review of deterministic and stochastic models, microscopic and macroscopic simulations, and AI-based traffic forecasting methods, this study highlights how modern tools are reshaping urban mobility. The paper also discusses the current challenges, scope for improvement, and the future trajectory of traffic modeling to enable smarter, adaptive traffic management systems. These developments not only improve real-time decision-making but also provide valuable insights for long-term transportation planning.
