Digital Twins in Civil Engineering: Enhancing Project Lifecycle Management

Author: Amitabh Mishra

Abstract: Digital Twins (DTs) are revolutionizing the field of civil engineering by providing dynamic, real-time digital replicas of physical structures. This paper explores the latest trends in the application of Digital Twins for lifecycle management of civil engineering projects. We delve into the principles of DTs, their integration with Building Information Modeling (BIM), and their role in enhancing project planning, construction, and maintenance. The research highlights how DTs facilitate predictive maintenance, optimize resource allocation, and improve safety through real-time monitoring and simulations. Case studies demonstrate the successful implementation of DTs in large-scale infrastructure projects, showcasing their potential to reduce costs, mitigate risks, and extend the lifespan of assets. The paper also discusses challenges such as data integration, cybersecurity, and the need for standardized frameworks for DT implementation.

Keywords: Digital Twins, lifecycle Management, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Predictive Maintenance, Cybersecurity
