Abstract: The rapid advancement in smart materials has transformed the landscape of civil engineering and architectural planning. This paper explores recent trends in the development and application of smart materials to create sustainable infrastructure. The research focuses on materials like self-healing concrete, phase change materials (PCMs), and smart composites, which enhance durability, energy efficiency, and resilience. We examine the properties of these materials, their integration into construction processes, and their impact on reducing environmental footprints. Case studies highlight successful implementations of smart materials in green buildings and infrastructure projects worldwide. By synthesizing current literature and experimental data, we identify key benefits, challenges, and future directions for smart material utilization in sustainable civil engineering.
