Author: As semiconductor technology continues to evolve toward nanometer and sub-nanometer scales, the complexity of physical design has increased exponentially. Automated layout and physical design optimization play a crucial role in modern integrated circuit (IC) design, ensuring high performance, low power consumption, and efficient use of silicon area. With the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) methodologies, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools have been transformed into intelligent design systems capable of learning, predicting, and optimizing physical layouts autonomously. This paper explores the principles, methodologies, challenges, and future prospects of automated layout and physical design optimization, emphasizing AI-driven techniques, design space exploration, and sustainability considerations in advanced IC fabrication.
