Abstract: The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology into information technology (IT) systems has revolutionized numerous sectors by enabling enhanced connectivity, automation, and data-driven decision-making. However, this advancement comes with significant security challenges due to the widespread deployment of interconnected devices, often with limited computational resources. This paper explores the critical security challenges faced by IoT-enabled IT systems, including device authentication, data encryption, secure communication, and intrusion detection. It also examines scalability, resource constraints, interoperability, privacy concerns, and physical security as overarching challenges. Various security solutions are discussed, such as device-level security, network-level security, application-level security, and data security and privacy measures. Future directions include the potential of blockchain technology, machine learning, AI, quantum computing, and zero trust architecture in enhancing IoT security. By addressing these challenges, we can ensure the reliability, confidentiality, and integrity of IoT-enabled IT systems, unlocking their full potential while safeguarding sensitive information.
