Abstract:-Â This article describes a closed loop speed control system for a permanent magnet direct current (PMDC) motor. In MATLAB Simulink, a Proportional plus Integral (PI) controller is created. The computer's control signal is sent into an Arduino microcontroller board, which provides the appropriate pulse width modulated (PWM) signal, which drives the PMDC motor through a driver IC. The speed of the motor shaft is measured by a tacho- generator and transmitted back to the controller block in MATLAB. The controller has been developed in such a manner that the motor speed may be kept constant even when the load changes abruptly. The results of hardware experiments are presented to illustrate the performance of the designed approach.
