ABSTRACT: Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are rapidly transforming the landscape of industrial automation by introducing intelligence, flexibility, and autonomy to material handling and intralogistics. These robots, equipped with sophisticated sensors, AI algorithms, and navigation systems, are capable of perceiving, analyzing, and acting within dynamic factory environments. In the context of Industry 4.0, AMRs facilitate real-time data communication and seamless integration with cyber-physical systems. This paper explores the operational framework of AMRs, their role in smart manufacturing environments, comparative advantages over Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and integration challenges. Through a detailed review of current implementations and industry use-cases, the study highlights how AMRs contribute to increased productivity, worker safety, and manufacturing agility. The paper concludes with future directions, suggesting the role of 5G, edge computing, and collaborative AI in further enhancing AMR functionality in smart factories.
