ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION (RPA) IN MATERIAL HANDLING AND ASSEMBLY

Author: Dr. Ananya Mehta,Rahul S. Verm

ABSTRACT : Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is emerging as a transformative technology in industrial environments, particularly in the areas of material handling and assembly. Traditionally associated with software-driven automation in business processes, RPA has evolved to encompass the integration of robotics, AI, and IoT within physical manufacturing systems. In material handling, RPA enables real-time scheduling, dynamic routing, and autonomous coordination between conveyors, robotic arms, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs). In assembly processes, RPA systems enhance precision, consistency, and adaptability, reducing cycle times while maintaining quality control. This paper explores the design, integration, and operational advantages of RPA in manufacturing contexts, focusing on its impact on productivity, safety, and flexibility. Furthermore, challenges such as system interoperability, cybersecurity, and workforce adaptation are addressed, along with future directions in collaborative robotics and AI-enhanced decision-making for fully autonomous production lines.
