ABSTRACT: Automated manufacturing environments have evolved significantly with the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, enabling higher efficiency, reduced downtime, and improved production quality. However, these advancements have introduced new cybersecurity vulnerabilities due to interconnected devices, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks, and cloud-based monitoring systems. Cyberattacks such as ransomware, data breaches, and unauthorized access can cause severe disruptions, financial loss, and safety hazards. This paper investigates the major cybersecurity challenges in automated manufacturing, analyzes their implications, and discusses robust mitigation strategies. Topics include vulnerability assessment, attack detection, intrusion prevention, and regulatory compliance. Case studies highlight real-world cyber incidents in manufacturing, offering insights into best practices for securing operational technology (OT) environments. Recommendations focus on adopting multi-layered security architectures, continuous monitoring, and workforce cybersecurity awareness to ensure resilient, secure, and sustainable manufacturing operations.
