Abstract: In many casting manufacturing industry, Furnaces are most commonly used for melting of materials. Induction furnaces are more beneficial as no fuel is required. Especially silica ramming mass is used as refractory material to prevent losses. It is a problem to find life of Induction Melting Furnace wall under thermal fatigue. The induction melting furnace wall is made of silica ramming mass which is one kind of refractory material. In foundry industry, energy accounting is necessary to determine heat losses and how efficient is the energy management system. There are many opportunities for improving energy efficiency in most foundries. In this paper we have suggested alternative ramming mass material to silica ramming mass which is Zirconia (ZrO2).The thermal conductivity of Zirconia ramming mass is less so considerable energy saving can be achieved by proper attention to this process by thermal analysis of induction furnace by using ANSYS software. This paper deals with Thermal analysis of Induction furnace by using Silica and Zirconia ramming mass material for minimum heat losses during melting process. Heat loss calculation requires thermal properties and physical parameter. Calculations have been done for theoretical heat loss and temperature distribution which are later compared with actual values measured on existing furnace. ANSYS Software was used for thermal analysis which gave more accurate results.
