COLLABORATIVE ROBOTS (COBOTS) IN SEMI-AUTOMATED PRODUCTION LINES

Authors: Dr. Rakesh Mehta,Ms. Priya Sharma

The integration of collaborative robots (cobots) into semi-automated production lines has revolutionized modern manufacturing by blending human skill with robotic precision. Unlike traditional industrial robots, cobots are designed to work safely alongside human operators, enhancing flexibility, productivity, and workplace ergonomics. This paper explores the role of cobots in semi-automated environments, examining their technological capabilities, safety mechanisms, and application domains. Emphasis is placed on their adaptability, ease of programming, and cost-effectiveness, which make them ideal for small and medium-sized enterprises. Key challenges, including safety certification, workforce training, and process optimization, are discussed alongside emerging trends such as AI-driven control and sensor integration. A comparative analysis with conventional automation highlights cobots’ advantages in mixed-task operations. Case studies demonstrate practical deployment in automotive, electronics, and food processing industries. The paper concludes that cobots will play a critical role in the future of manufacturing, bridging the gap between manual labor and fully automated production systems while enabling mass customization and operational resilience.*
