Abstract: The integration of human–robot collaboration (HRC) in advanced manufacturing environments is transforming industrial production by combining human flexibility with robotic precision and endurance. This paper examines the state-of-the-art HRC frameworks, focusing on collaborative robot (cobot) design, safety considerations, communication protocols, and task allocation strategies. It explores the benefits of HRC including increased productivity, enhanced quality, and worker safety. Two detailed tables provide insights into key technologies enabling HRC and a comparative analysis of human-only, robot-only, and collaborative work scenarios. Challenges such as human-robot interface design, trust, and ethical considerations are also discussed. The paper concludes by highlighting future trends and the importance of fostering seamless human–robot partnerships for smart manufacturing systems.
