Tele-Midwifery: Remote Antenatal Monitoring and Maternal Outcomes During And After The Covid Era

Dr. Meenakshi Rajput, Prof. Abhijeet Narayan

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly reshaped healthcare delivery systems worldwide, accelerating the adoption of digital and telehealth innovations. Among these, tele-midwifery emerged as a crucial approach to sustain antenatal care for expectant mothers amid restricted physical interactions. This paper explores the concept, implementation, and outcomes of tele-midwifery as a remote antenatal monitoring model, emphasizing its evolution during and after the COVID era. The discussion encompasses digital health tools, patient–provider engagement, maternal and neonatal outcomes, challenges in rural and low-resource settings, and the future potential of tele-midwifery in strengthening maternal healthcare systems globally. The study concludes that tele-midwifery, while not a complete substitute for traditional midwifery, offers a sustainable and scalable complement that enhances access, safety, and continuity of care.
