Abstract: Electronic textile fabrics that can function electrically as electronics and behave physically as textiles which enable computing, digital components and electronics embedded in them. Recent advances in technologies bringing clothing, technology and textiles together to create fabrics with capabilities for users as varied as athletes, patients, soldiers and ordinary consumers. After the invention of metallic yarns, it is found easy to use electronic chips in textile materials. Manufacturing of smart products demands a complex and innovative technological approach by combining conventional textile manufacturing technologies as weaving, knitting and embroidery with technologies originating from the electronic sphere, such as coating, lithography and ink-jet printing. The implement of truly wearable instrumented garments which are capable of recording biomechanical variables are crucial in several fields of applications.
Keywords: Electro active fabrics, Smart textiles, Textile sensors, Metallic yarns, Fibre optic sensors.
