Green Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: Sustainable Strategies in Drug Development and Analysis

Lakshmi Narayan Rao, Poonam Sharma

Abstract

Abstract The pharmaceutical industry faces increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint. This paper explores green chemistry principles in drug development and industrial pharmacy. Topics covered include solvent recovery, process intensification, energy-efficient synthesis, and biodegradable excipients. Analytical techniques that minimize waste, such as microextraction and online analysis, are also examined. Case studies from Indian pharmaceutical firms illustrate practical implementations and economic benefits. Regulatory trends supporting sustainability are reviewed, including guidelines from USFDA, EMA, and India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The study concludes with future directions for integrating green metrics in early research and commercial production.
