Biochemical Modulation of Oxidative Stress Biomarkers and Cellular Detoxification via Sequential Panchakarma Shodhana Core Protocols

Abstract


This prospective clinical investigation evaluates the systemic impact of sequential Panchakarma Shodhana (purificatory) protocols on oxidative stress profiles and cellular detoxification indices in patients with metabolic syndrome. A cohort of 45 participants underwent a structured 21-day intervention including internal oleation, thermal sudation, and controlled Virechana (purgation). Serum malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) levels, and inflammatory cytokines were measured pre- and post-therapy. The results demonstrated a statistically significant 46.7% reduction in serum MDA levels along with a substantial elevation in endogenous glutathione concentrations, establishing a clear link between traditional purificatory sequences and systemic cellular detoxification pathways.
