Power electronics is a rapidly evolving field that is essential for a wide range of applications. The next generation of power electronics will need to meet the demands of high-performance electrical machine drives, while also being more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective.
This paper reviews the latest developments in next-generation power electronics, with a focus on their applications in high-performance electrical machine drives. The paper begins by discussing the challenges that need to be addressed in next-generation power electronics. It then reviews the following promising technologies: wide bandgap (WBG) power semiconductor devices, multilevel converters, integrated power modules, and digital control. The paper concludes by discussing the future of power electronics for high- performance electrical machine drives.
