This paper delves into the fundamental dissimilarities between alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) machines, elucidating their construction, working principles, and performance attributes. It begins by elucidating the core principles underlying AC and DC systems, subsequently examining the construction and operational disparities between AC and DC machines. The analysis extends to an exploration of the performance characteristics such as efficiency, power factor, and speed control mechanisms inherent to both types of machines. By comprehensively comparing AC and DC machines, this paper aims to provide a holistic understanding of their functionalities, aiding engineers and enthusiasts in selecting the appropriate machine for diverse applications.
