Dr. Meera S. Kulkarni

Abstract

Panchakarma, an integral component of Ayurvedic medicine, has long been recognized for its holistic approach in promoting physical and mental well-being. This study explores the psychological effects of Panchakarma, focusing on measurable changes in stress, anxiety, and depression levels among individuals undergoing treatment. The research employs validated psychometric scales to assess pre- and post-treatment psychological states. Findings indicate a significant reduction in perceived stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms following Panchakarma therapy. The paper also discusses the possible mechanisms behind these effects, including detoxification, mind-body harmony, and lifestyle modifications inherent to the Panchakarma regimen. Challenges, limitations, and potential future directions are examined, providing a comprehensive overview of the psychological impact of this ancient therapeutic practice.
