Panchkarma in Chronic Disease Management: Synergy of Samshodhana and Samshamana in Non-Communicable Diseases
Abstract
Abstract
Panchkarma, the fivefold purification therapy rooted in classical Ayurveda, offers a holistic and personalized approach to chronic disease management. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disorders, and arthritis present multifaceted challenges that modern biomedicine struggles to address comprehensively. Ayurveda provides an integrative model, emphasizing both curative and preventive approaches through Samshodhana (bio-purificatory therapies) and Samshamana (palliative treatments). This paper explores the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and therapeutic outcomes of Panchkarma in managing NCDs. It assesses its synergistic potential in detoxifying the body, restoring doshic balance, enhancing metabolism, and improving quality of life. Further, it highlights the challenges, scope for research, and clinical integration in contemporary healthcare systems.
