Abstract

Kayachikitsa, the branch of Ayurveda focusing on internal medicine, has been extensively utilized for the management of chronic metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, and dyslipidemia. Recent research has emphasized its holistic approach, integrating dietary regulation (Ahara), lifestyle modification (Vihara), and herbo-mineral therapeutics (Aushadhi) to restore the physiological balance of Doshas. This paper reviews contemporary studies evaluating the efficacy of classical Ayurvedic interventions, including Rasayanatherapy, Panchakarma procedures, and herbal formulations like Guduchi (Tinosporacordifolia) and Triphala, in modulating glycemic levels, lipid profiles, and inflammatory markers. Moreover, mechanistic insights from pharmacological studies reveal that these interventions act via antioxidant activity, immunomodulation, and gut microbiome modulation. The review also highlights the need for rigorous clinical trials adhering to modern research standards to validate the therapeutic potential of Kayachikitsa in chronic metabolic disorders.
