Integrating Non-Motorized Transport Into Urban Road Design: Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Cities Through Infrast

Abstract: Urban transportation systems worldwide face challenges of congestion, environmental degradation, and inequity in access. Non-motorized transport (NMT), including walking and cycling, offers an eco-friendly, health-promoting, and equitable solution for sustainable urban development. This paper explores the integration of NMT into urban road design through engineering strategies that prioritize inclusivity, safety, and sustainability. Drawing from best practices and innovations in infrastructure design, this study discusses the current trends, challenges, and future directions for creating NMT-friendly urban environments. A comprehensive approach combining urban planning, traffic engineering, and behavioral insights is presented to ensure that cities evolve towards more livable, connected, and resilient futures.
