Software Reliability Engineering: Metrics and Models for Effective Testing

Abstract: Software reliability engineering (SRE) is an essential discipline for ensuring the functionality and dependability of software systems throughout their lifecycle. This paper explores various metrics and models used in SRE to assess software reliability and guide testing processes. The significance of defect prediction, fault tolerance, and the role of failure data analysis in improving software reliability is discussed in detail. Furthermore, we review the key models for testing effectiveness, including statistical approaches, fault injection methods, and probabilistic modeling. We aim to highlight the critical strategies that contribute to software robustness and offer insights into applying these models to real-world scenarios for improved software quality.
