Abstract:Â This research explores the capacity of dynamically generating interactive virtual environments using Virtual Reality Mark-up Framework to build interior environments that can effectively simulate immersive interior environments. The proposed system for this study includes multiple functionalities to create virtual worlds by using Virtual Reality Mark-up Language. Users of this solution can describe the 3D environment they want to build by using natural language or inserting a sketch of the objects to include in the virtual indoor environment, increasing the useability. The main focus of allowing dynamic 3D object generation is to allow users to create virtual environments as in their imagination without using dedicated 3D authoring tools. The virtual environment's users' expectations are extracted using co reference resolution and dependency parsing from text format. On the other hand, the sketches representing 3D objects drawn by users are identified using image processing techniques such as contour approximation and edge detection. Once the virtual 3D environment is created using those inputs, the system allows the user to manipulate virtual objects in the 3D environment using hand gestures and morphing techniques. This functionality enhances the immersion of the virtual reality experience. Moreover, the system allows navigating within the environment as an avatar using voice commands in the Sinhala language. Even though there had been some research and applications developed using Virtual Reality (VR) with 3D modelling, this solution is unique and much more dynamic in generating and manipulating the 3D environments than the systems currently available.
