High-Performance Motor Drives for Industrial Automation

Dr. Aniket Sharma, Prof. Meera Raghavan

Abstract

Industrial automation relies heavily on high-performance motor drives that offer precise speed control, energy efficiency, and robust operation under varying load conditions. This paper discusses the latest advancements in motor drive technologies, including vector control, direct torque control (DTC), and sensorless drive systems. The impact of power electronics on motor performance is analyzed, focusing on the role of advanced pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques, power factor correction, and regenerative braking. The study also highlights emerging trends such as IoT-enabled smart drives and AI-based fault detection in industrial applications. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of these innovations in optimizing industrial processes and reducing energy consumption.
