Pathological Approaches to Identifying and Preventing Waterborne Communicable Diseases in Urban Slums

Sanjana Bhagat, Kirti Patel

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Urban slums are hotspots for waterborne communicable diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis A. This research investigates the role of pathology in identifying these diseases through stool, blood, and water sample analysis. It also explores the use of microbiological culture and PCR diagnostics to trace contamination sources. Preventive medicine strategies— like chlorination, sanitation awareness, and vaccination—are examined in the context of pathological data. By focusing on India’s urban health challenges, the study reveals how pathology-driven surveillance combined with targeted preventive actions can dramatically reduce morbidity in slum populations.
