Abstract : Nanotechnology has revolutionized civil engineering by enhancing the properties of conventional construction materials. This paper delves into the integration of nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, nanoclays, and nano-silica into concrete, asphalt, and steel. The incorporation of these nanomaterials has shown remarkable improvements in mechanical strength, durability, and sustainability. For instance, nano-silica increases concrete compressive strength and reduces permeability, while carbon nanotubes provide steel with exceptional tensile strength. The paper also explores the environmental benefits of using nanomaterials, including reduced carbon emissions and increased lifespan of structures. Additionally, challenges such as the high cost of nanomaterials and potential health risks are discussed. Future directions for research include optimizing the manufacturing process of nanomaterials and developing guidelines for their safe use in construction.
