Abstract
Machining automation is evolving rapidly, driven by the need for higher precision, flexibility, and efficiency in modern manufacturing. The integration of Robot Operating System (ROS) with real-time control systems presents a promising approach to enhance automation in machining processes. ROS provides a flexible software framework for robot programming and communication, while real-time control ensures deterministic execution of machining operations. This paper reviews the current state of research on integrating ROS with real-time controls, discusses various architectures and approaches, and highlights challenges and future directions. Experimental results and case studies indicate that the combination of ROS and real-time controllers improves accuracy, responsiveness, and system modularity in machining automation.
