Abstract: The integration of information technology (IT) into healthcare has led to significant advancements in the delivery and quality of medical services. This paper explores the various applications of IT in healthcare, including Electronic Health Records (EHRs), telemedicine, Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS), and mobile health (mHealth). These technologies have revolutionized patient data management, enhanced access to medical services, and improved clinical decision-making. Despite the numerous benefits, challenges such as data security, interoperability, implementation costs, and resistance to change hinder the full potential of IT in healthcare. The paper also discusses future opportunities in the field, such as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain technology, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), personalized medicine, and Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Addressing the existing challenges and embracing these future technologies can further enhance healthcare services, making them more efficient, secure, and patient-centered.
