Abstract:Â Power System Protection is critical in an electrical power system because it reduces power outages for consumers while also preventing damage to electrical equipment. Renewable energy (RE) penetration in the power grid has recently aided in supporting and meeting the growing demand for electricity from customers. However, the addition of renewable energy (RE), such as solar photovoltaic (PV), will raise the fault level and cause reverse power flow, compromising power system protection.
Â
When the power system is without and with solar PV penetration, this article focuses on analysing the dependability of differential protection relays during steady state, internal and external faults circumstances. The IEEE 39 bus test system will be used to model steady state and three-phase symmetrical line faults using Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS®E) software.
