Enhancing Operator Training through Digital Work Instructions and Augmented Reality (AR) in Modern Manufacturing

Authors : Mr. Rajeev M. Salunkhe , Ms. Divya N. Ramasamy

Abstract : The rapid evolution of manufacturing processes driven by Industry 4.0 has necessitated more effective, efficient, and immersive training methods for machine operators. Traditional paper-based manuals are often static, outdated, and hard to interpret in real-time operational contexts. Digital Work Instructions (DWIs), combined with Augmented Reality (AR), are transforming operator training by delivering dynamic, visual, and contextual information directly within the worker’s field of vision. This paper explores the design, implementation, and benefits of integrating AR with DWIs in operator training systems. It reviews the challenges, technologies involved, and real-world applications while emphasizing the resulting gains in accuracy, productivity, and safety.
