Abstract:The escalating environmental concerns associated with traditional packaging materials have steered a significant shift towards sustainable packaging solutions, with biodegradable materials emerging as a pivotal alternative. This paper delves into the evolving landscape of biodegradable materials in packaging design, highlighting their critical role in the pursuit of sustainability. It provides a comprehensive overview of current trends, where natural and synthesized biodegradable materials are increasingly being utilized in various packaging applications due to their minimal environmental footprint. Despite the promising aspects of biodegradable packaging, the paper also addresses the array of challenges that impede its widespread adoption. These include technical limitations, higher costs, and the complexities involved in end-of-life disposal and composting processes. Through a meticulous analysis, the paper synthesizes key findings, underscoring the potential and limitations of biodegradable packaging materials.
