Abstract: Mobile applications are increasingly expected to function reliably regardless of network availability. In many real-world scenarios, such as rural connectivity, transportation systems, and field data collection, continuous internet access cannot be guaranteed. Offline-first mobile application design addresses this challenge by prioritizing local data storage and synchronization mechanisms over real-time network dependency. This paper presents a comprehensive study of offline-first mobile app design using local databases. It discusses architectural principles, data persistence techniques, synchronization strategies, conflict resolution mechanisms, and platform-specific implementations for Android and iOS. Through tables and conceptual two-dimensional figures, the paper highlights best practices for building resilient, user-friendly, and scalable offline-capable mobile applications.
