Ensuring Quality at Scale: Automated Mobile App Testing Using Appium

Author: Vikram S. Kulkarni, Ananya Sen

Abstract: Automated testing is a critical component of modern mobile application development, ensuring functionality, reliability, and performance across diverse devices and operating systems. Appium, an open-source, cross-platform test automation framework, enables developers and testers to automate functional and regression testing for native, hybrid, and mobile web applications on Android and iOS platforms. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of automated mobile app testing using Appium, highlighting architecture, setup, testing strategies, cross-platform capabilities, and integration with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. The study includes tables and figures illustrating test workflows, device coverage strategies, and Appium architecture. Challenges, best practices, and performance considerations are discussed to guide developers and QA teams in implementing scalable, maintainable, and efficient automated testing for mobile applications.

Keywords:  Mobile testing, Appium, automated testing, cross-platform, CI/CD, mobile application quality
