Abstract: With the rapid growth of mobile applications, iOS apps increasingly rely on Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to exchange data with remote servers, cloud services, and third-party platforms. While APIs enable rich functionality and seamless user experiences, they also introduce significant security and privacy challenges. In recent years, data breaches, unauthorized access, and improper handling of sensitive information have raised serious concerns among users, developers, and regulators. Apple has introduced a strong security-centric ecosystem, offering frameworks, policies, and hardware-backed protections that aim to safeguard user data and secure network communication. However, secure API handling and data privacy are not automatically guaranteed by the platform alone; they heavily depend on correct design decisions, secure coding practices, and compliance with privacy regulations. This paper presents a comprehensive review of secure API handling and data privacy practices in iOS applications. It explores the iOS security architecture, common API-related threats, authentication and authorization mechanisms, secure network communication, data storage protection, and privacypreserving design principles. The paper also discusses Apple’s App Store privacy requirements and the impact of global data protection regulations on iOS development. Practical challenges and future trends in API security are highlighted to provide guidance for developers and researchers. The study aims to bridge the gap between theoretical security models and real-world iOS application development, emphasizing the importance of privacy-by-design and defense-in-depth strategies.
