Jetpack Compose Adoption & Performance Analysis

Author: Om Prakash Yadav , Sohan Chaudhary , Deepali Sharma

Abstract: Jetpack Compose, introduced by Google in 2019, represents a modern approach to building native Android user interfaces (UI) declaratively, replacing traditional XML-based layouts. This paper reviews the adoption trends of Jetpack Compose, its performance impact, and the comparative advantages and challenges developers face during migration from legacy UI frameworks. We analyze both industry adoption and open-source project trends, followed by empirical performance tests measuring rendering times, memory consumption, and responsiveness in common UI patterns. Our findings indicate that Jetpack Compose improves developer productivity, reduces boilerplate code, and offers comparable or slightly better runtime performance in modern Android devices. We also discuss limitations such as learning curve and interoperability with legacy code. The study provides actionable insights for organizations considering full-scale Compose adoption and establishes a framework for future performance evaluation.
