Measuring Digital Trust: Metrics, Models, and Challenges
Abstract
Digital trust is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in the adoption and success of online services, e-commerce platforms, financial technologies, and digital ecosystems. Despite its importance, measuring digital trust remains challenging due to its multi-dimensional, context-dependent, and subjective nature. This paper explores existing approaches to quantifying digital trust, discusses the metrics and models used, and highlights the challenges associated with trust measurement. Both technical (security, reliability, privacy) and socio-behavioral (perceived integrity, fairness, transparency) dimensions are considered. A conceptual framework for measuring digital trust is proposed, integrating system-level indicators, user perceptions, and organizational practices. The paper emphasizes that accurate, actionable trust metrics are essential for organizations to manage cyber risk effectively and enhance stakeholder confidence.
