Abstract


Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly emerged as a transformative force in cybersecurity, offering advanced capabilities for threat detection, automated response, and predictive risk analysis. As cyber threats grow in volume, velocity, and sophistication, traditional rule-based security mechanisms struggle to keep pace. AI-driven cybersecurity systems promise significant risk reduction by leveraging machine learning, behavioral analytics, and automation. However, the integration of AI into security infrastructures also introduces new trust dilemmas related to transparency, accountability, bias, and over-reliance on autonomous systems. This paper critically examines the dual role of Artificial Intelligence in cybersecurity as both a risk mitigation tool and a potential source of new trust challenges. It explores AI applications in cyber defense, evaluates their effectiveness in reducing cyber risk, and analyzes emerging trust concerns from organizational, consumer, and ethical perspectives. Through conceptual models, comparative tables, and structured analysis, the paper argues that while AI enhances cyber resilience, sustainable digital trust requires human oversight, explainability, and governance frameworks that align technological innovation with ethical responsibility.
