Improving Pediatric Palliative Care Best Practices and Challenges in a Global Context

Authors:Radhika Soni, Shilpi Kushwah, Pushpa Malhotra

Abstract:This article explores the best practices and challenges in improving pediatric palliative care in a global context. Pediatric palliative care focuses on providing comprehensive support to children with life-limiting illnesses, addressing their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. The best practices include early integration of palliative care, interdisciplinary collaboration, family-centered care, effective pain and symptom management, and psychosocial support. However, several challenges persist, including limited access and awareness, cultural and ethical considerations, communication and decision-making complexities, funding and resource allocation issues, and the need for workforce development and training. Overcoming these challenges requires prioritizing pediatric palliative care, strengthening healthcare systems, raising awareness, and advocating for sustainable funding. By implementing best practices and addressing the challenges, we can enhance the quality of life for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Keywords:Pediatric palliative care, best practices, challenges, interdisciplinary collaboration, family-centered care, pain management, psychosocial support, access, communication, workforce development.
