An Estimation of the Low-Cycle Fatigue Life of a Turbine

Authors:- Anurag Kashyap, Somkant R. Jawarkar

Abstract:- The purpose of this work is to estimate the low cycle life of a turbine blisk. The turbine blisk operates under harsh circumstances, resulting in aerodynamic stresses and significant centrifugal loads. The weights on the turbine blisk change depending on the vehicle's mission profile, which includes takeoff, cruising, and landing. A finite element study of elastic-plastic materials is performed. Then Code Design Life tool is used to estimate the life expectancy at the obtained stress and strain levels. The strain life technique is used to estimate life, and the Smith-Watson Topper's approach is used to do mean stress correction.

Keywords:- Turbine Blisk, Low Cycle Fatigue, Strain-Life Approach, Palmgren-Miner’s Rule, Mean Stress Correction.
