Authors: Raghav Mehta , Prabhunath Chatterjee , Shobha Yadav , Anant Goyal

Abstract: Soft robotics has emerged as a transformative field that bridges traditional robotics with the flexibility, adaptability, and resilience observed in biological systems. Unlike conventional rigid robots, soft robots utilize compliant materials and bio-inspired actuation strategies to perform tasks in unstructured and dynamic environments. This review focuses on the fundamental principles of soft robotics, various types of bio-inspired actuators, and their applications in industries, healthcare, and exploration. Challenges related to material selection, control strategies, and scalability are discussed alongside recent advancements in fabrication and sensing techniques. The paper also highlights future directions for integrating artificial intelligence and novel biomimetic designs into soft robotic systems.

Keywords: Soft robotics, bio-inspired actuation, continuum robots, compliant mechanisms, biomimetics, soft actuators
