Strategies To Reduce Maternal Mortality In Low- And Middle Income Countries
Abstract
Maternal mortality remains one of the most pressing global public health challenges, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite significant progress over the past two decades, preventable maternal deaths continue to occur at alarming rates, particularly in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. This paper explores evidence based strategies to reduce maternal mortality in LMICs by examining healthcare system strengthening, community-based interventions, socio economic determinants, and policy frameworks. The analysis highlights the importance of skilled birth attendance, improved access to emergency obstetric care, family planning services, and integrated health system approaches. Furthermore, it evaluates the role of education, gender equality, and technological innovations in improving maternal health outcomes. The paper argues that a comprehensive, multi-sectoral approach is essential to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets and ensure equitable maternal healthcare globally.
