General Nursing Practice and Its Impact on Postoperative Recovery in Medical-Surgical Units
Abstract
General nurses play an essential role in postoperative care, where patient outcomes often depend on the quality of immediate nursing interventions. This paper evaluates the influence of general nursing practices—including pain management, mobility encouragement, wound care, and patient education—on recovery trajectories in medical-surgical units. Data from tertiary hospitals were analyzed to examine patient recovery times, infection rates, and readmissions. Results indicate a direct correlation between structured nursing interventions and quicker recovery. The paper also identifies challenges such as nurse-patient ratios, documentation burdens, and protocol adherence. Recommendations are provided for optimizing nursing workflow to enhance surgical recovery outcomes.
