Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) for Deterministic Industrial Communication
Abstract
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is emerging as a key enabler for deterministic communication in modern industrial networks. With the growth of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), traditional Ethernet networks fall short in meeting strict timing, reliability, and synchronization requirements. TSN extends standard Ethernet with mechanisms such as time-aware scheduling, traffic shaping, and frame preemption to guarantee low latency and high reliability for critical industrial applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of TSN technologies, its architecture, key standards, industrial applications, performance analysis, challenges, and future research directions. The study aims to provide insights for researchers and practitioners on adopting TSN in real-time industrial communication systems.
