Nurse Workforce Resilience: Interventions to Reduce Burnout and Improve Retention in the Post-Pandemic Healthcare Era
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic placed unprecedented strain on healthcare systems globally, exposing critical vulnerabilities in the nursing workforce. Burnout, emotional fatigue, and attrition rates soared as nurses faced prolonged stress, high patient mortality, and inadequate organizational support. Post-pandemic recovery efforts now hinge on enhancing nurse resilience and retention to ensure sustainable healthcare delivery. This paper examines the multifactorial causes of burnout, explores evidence-based interventions to strengthen nurse resilience, and discusses innovative organizational strategies for improving workforce retention. By integrating psychological, professional, and institutional support mechanisms, healthcare systems can foster a culture of resilience that empowers nurses, mitigates turnover, and enhances patient care outcomes.
