Cognitive Singularity and the Quest for True Artificial General Intelligence

Abstract


Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) represents the next frontier in computational intelligence, aiming to create machines capable of human-like reasoning, learning, and problem-solving across domains. Cognitive singularity, a concept describing a critical threshold where AGI surpasses human cognitive capabilities, has profound implications for society, ethics, and technological progress. This paper explores the theoretical foundations of AGI, evaluating current advancements in neural networks, reinforcement learning, and neuro-symbolic architectures. Key challenges, such as transfer learning, self-improvement, and alignment with human values, are critically examined. By analyzing both technical and philosophical perspectives, the paper aims to provide a roadmap for safely approaching cognitive singularity while harnessing AGI’s potential for scientific and social benefit.
