Socio-Economic Impacts of Cognitive Singularity: Transformation or Disruption?
Abstract
The emergence of Artificial General Intelligence and the onset of cognitive singularity are expected to reshape socio-economic systems on a global scale. This paper investigates the transformative and disruptive potential of AGI across labor markets, wealth distribution, education, and governance. On one hand, AGI could automate repetitive tasks, generate new industries, and enhance productivity, thereby driving economic growth. On the other, it risks exacerbating inequality, displacing workers, and concentrating power in the hands of a few corporations or governments. The study evaluates policy interventions such as universal basic income, reskilling initiatives, and AI-driven governance to mitigate potential disruptions. Comparative historical analysis of previous industrial revolutions provides insights into how societies adapted to technological upheavals. The paper concludes that the socio-economic impacts of cognitive singularity will depend heavily on proactive governance and inclusive innovation strategies.
