Abstract

Cloud computing has revolutionized software development by providing scalable infrastructure and efficient deployment platforms, but it also introduces significant security concerns that threaten data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the major security threats faced by cloud-based software development environments, such as data breaches, insecure APIs, and insider threats. We classify these threats according to their nature—whether they are external attacks or internal vulnerabilities—and examine existing mitigation techniques, including encryption, multi-factor authentication, secure APIs, and intrusion detection systems. The paper further explores emerging solutions like homomorphic encryption, zero-trust architectures, and blockchain-enabled access control to enhance cloud security. Real-world incidents of cloud security failures are reviewed to highlight common pitfalls and the importance of proactive risk management strategies.
