Embodied AI Systems for Bridging Cyberspace and the Physical World
Abstract
ABSTRACT Embodied Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a transformative shift from purely software-based intelligence toward systems that perceive, reason, and act within the physical world. Unlike conventional AI models that operate exclusively in cyberspace, embodied AI systems integrate sensing, actuation, and cognition to enable meaningful interaction with real-world environments. This paper presents a comprehensive review of embodied AI systems as a bridge between cyberspace and the physical domain. It explores foundational concepts, architectures, enabling technologies, learning paradigms, and application domains including robotics, smart manufacturing, healthcare, and urban systems. The study further discusses human–AI interaction, ethical challenges, and open research problems such as sim-to-real transfer and long term autonomy. Through comparative tables and system illustrations, the paper highlights how embodied intelligence transforms digital knowledge into actionable behavior. While significant advancements have been made through deep learning and reinforcement learning, the field still faces issues in scalability, safety, adaptability, and trust. The review concludes that embodied AI will become a core infrastructure technology in cyber-physical ecosystems, enabling intelligent agents that seamlessly connect digital reasoning with physical execution.
