The Influence of Samhita and Shiddhanta on Sanskrit Literature: A Historical Perspective
Abstract
Abstract:The classical texts of Ayurveda, such as the Samhitas and Shiddhantas, are not only the cornerstones of the Ayurvedic medical system but also significant contributors to the development of Sanskrit literature. These texts offer profound insights into ancient Indian medicinal knowledge and philosophical thought, articulated through the intricacies of the Sanskrit language. This paper traces the influence of these texts on Sanskrit literature, examining how the Samhitas and Shiddhantas helped shape the literary, philosophical, and linguistic traditions of classical Sanskrit. By analyzing key texts such as the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and various Shiddhantas, this study highlights their linguistic contributions, narrative structures, and philosophical doctrines. The paper provides a historical perspective on how these ancient texts not only preserved knowledge but also enriched the cultural fabric of Sanskrit literature.
